Field notes / practical guide

Website enquiry tracking plan

An enquiry tracking plan specifies which business actions matter, where they happen and how their completion will be verified.

Map the journeys

List forms, calls, bookings and external contact routes. Identify the page or campaign context needed for analysis. Keep the customer’s private message and contact details separate from analytics events.

Define the event contract

Name the action, trigger, required non-personal parameters and expected count. Distinguish an attempted submission from successful receipt. Record the receiving system that can confirm the business event.

Validate and maintain

Run controlled tests through each route and reconcile the records. Include duplicate attempts, errors and consent-dependent behaviour. Give the plan an owner so new forms and website changes do not silently introduce inconsistent measurement.

Put the guidance to work

Capture your starting point, assign an owner to the next action, and decide what evidence will confirm that it worked.
