Field notes / practical guide

Shopify theme build handover checklist

A theme handover should leave the store team able to make ordinary changes confidently and identify when a developer is needed.

Document common editing tasks

Show how to update banners, product sections, collections and navigation in the delivered setup. Use the store’s own examples. Record constraints such as image proportions and content lengths that protect the design.

Put it in context

Project acceptance and handover

Track acceptance checks, review decisions and the material needed for handover.

Transfer the technical record

Provide the theme version, custom components, app dependencies and licence information. Identify account owners and the location of source code where applicable. Use appropriate delegated access instead of shared personal credentials.

Rehearse a change and recovery

Have the team complete a routine edit and explain how to undo it. Agree support responsibilities and what requires a new quote. Handover is complete when the operating team can use the system, not merely when files have been sent.

Put the guidance to work

Capture your starting point, assign an owner to the next action, and decide what evidence will confirm that it worked.
