A/B testing readiness checklist

An A/B test needs a meaningful decision, reliable measurement and enough eligible activity. Sometimes fixing a clear defect is more useful than running an experiment.

State the hypothesis

Describe the change, the expected customer effect and the metric that would inform a decision. Keep the test focused enough to interpret. Record important trade-offs, such as lead quality or support burden, alongside the primary measure.

Put it in context

Check readiness

Verify the conversion event and review traffic patterns before choosing an experiment design. Account for seasonality, overlapping campaigns and repeat visitors. Set the analysis plan in advance rather than choosing a stopping point after seeing a favourable result.

Use the outcome responsibly

Report uncertainty and any limitations in the sample. Preserve the test setup and decision record. A result from one audience or period should not be presented as a universal conversion rule for every business.

Put the guidance to work

Capture your starting point, assign an owner to the next action, and decide what evidence will confirm that it worked.
